StruXture Architects celebrates 75th Anniversary with National Recognition

West Des Moines, IA, October 19, 2009
StruXture Architects celebrates its 75 Year Anniversary with an Open House/After Hours on October 22, in its West Des Moines office. Since its creation, the company has grown from a one-person operation to a 30+ person firm with offices in Waterloo and West Des Moines. As part of their celebration StruXture has gifted their two Partner’s In Education schools, Waterloo Irving Elementary and Cedar Falls Cedar Heights Elementary, with 75 backpacks and accompanying schools supplies for teachers to hand out to kids in need of assistance throughout the upcoming year.

In a year when national construction volume has been seriously reduced, StruXture has had the good fortune of record growth. They have hired three new graduate architects in the past year (two in Waterloo and one in West Des Moines) and have received the honor of making Inc. Magazine’s 2009 Inc. 500/5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America. StruXture was listed (#2672/5000 nationwide) in Inc. Magazine’s September issue as one of only 33 companies in Iowa to make their prestigious list, the only company from Waterloo and the only architectural firm in the state.

StruXture also won two 2009 American School and Universities Design Excellence awards for their designs of Poyner Elementary for the Waterloo Community Schools and the Student Center for Hawkeye Community College. It also recently completed the PFG Best Corporate Headquarters in Cedar Falls, Iowa, which is currently seeking a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification – a Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

StruXture Architects was created in 1934, during the depression, by David Toenjes in Waterloo, Iowa. Since that time, the firm’s practice has been broadly based across many market types including commercial, civic, recreational and educational. The post World War II years and the resulting Baby Boom set the stage for the design of many school buildings throughout the state. Those years ushered in the growth of the firm’s largest market type and the development of it’s expertise in educational design. To date, StruXture Architects has designed new buildings, additions and remodels for over 400 Iowa schools.

StruXture Architects has been creating quality architecture throughout Iowa for 75 years and has offices in Waterloo and West Des Moines.
